What Pantry Pests Are
Pantry pests are small moths and beetles that infest stored food products like flour, cereal, grains, pet food, bird seed, rice, dried fruit, and pasta. Most pantry pest problems start with a single infested package — often one that was already infested when purchased.
Common Signs
- Small moths near the ceiling or pantry
- Tiny beetles in flour, cereal, rice, pet food, or bird seed
- Webbing inside dry-good packages
- Larvae crawling along shelves or walls
- Damaged or holed packaging
- Activity returning after shelves are cleaned
What to Do
- Identify infested packages — usually one or two specific items
- Discard infested products
- Vacuum shelves, edges, and corners
- Wipe down surfaces
- Transfer remaining dry goods into sealed containers
- Check pet food and bird seed
