Wasp Nest Removal

Need a Wasp Nest Removed Safely?

Wasp nests can grow quickly through the warmer months. A small, easy-to-overlook nest in spring can become a serious safety issue by mid-summer when colonies are at full strength and traffic to the nest is constant.

Apollo Pest Control provides safe, professional wasp nest removal for homes, suites, decks, sheds, rooflines, and small businesses. Treatment focuses on reaching the active interior of the nest, not just the visible surface, so the colony actually stops — rather than scattering or relocating nearby.

Why Wasp Nests Are More Than Just a Surface Problem

Eave and soffit nests are often larger than the visible opening suggests.

The nest you can see is usually only part of what is going on. Many wasp species build into a wall void, soffit, ground cavity, shed corner, or roofline gap — and the entrance hole gives no real indication of the size of the colony inside.

By the time you notice repeated traffic to one specific spot, there may already be hundreds of workers and a fully laying queen behind the surface. That matters because:

  • Knocking down a visible nest doesn't address what is inside the wall
  • Spraying the surface usually makes workers more defensive, not fewer
  • A queen that survives the disturbance may rebuild a few feet away
  • Ground nests can be much larger than the visible opening

When Wasp Nest Removal Becomes Important

A nest is worth treating quickly when it is:

  • Near an entryway, walkway, or deck where people pass close
  • In a roofline, soffit, or wall void where insects are entering through a small gap
  • In a shed, garage or outbuilding that is regularly used
  • In the ground near a lawn, garden, mower path, or play area
  • Close to a business entrance, patio, or staff area
  • Causing repeated stings, defensive behaviour, or interrupted use of a space
  • Above a frequently-used door where the path to the entry can't be avoided
  • Near outdoor dining, garbage or recycling at a restaurant or café

How Apollo Handles Wasp Nest Removal

Service typically includes:

  • Identification of the species (wasp, hornet or yellowjacket)
  • Inspection of the nest location and surrounding activity
  • Targeted treatment of the nest, including void or ground nests
  • Treatment timed to maximize the chance the queen is also affected
  • Removal of the visible nest when it is safe to do so
  • Recommendations to reduce future activity in the area
  • A follow-up check if activity continues after the initial visit

For wall-void or ground nests, the visible nest may not be the full story — there may be more activity behind siding, soffits, or below ground. Apollo Pest Control treats the active nest, not just the surface.

Wasps vs. Hornets vs. Yellowjackets

The three insects Apollo Pest Control treats look similar at a glance but behave a little differently and require slightly different handling.

InsectTypical Nest LocationsBehaviour Notes
Paper waspsEaves, soffits, deck undersides, shedsSmaller open-comb nests; less aggressive unless disturbed
HornetsTrees, shrubs, high rooflines, enclosed protected areasLarger papery nests; defensive of nest area
YellowjacketsGround openings, wall voids, attic gapsStrong attraction to food, sugar and garbage later in season

Why Not Just Use a Store-Bought Spray?

Aerosol cans can knock down a small, exposed surface nest, but they have real limitations:

  • They rarely reach the inside of a wall void or ground nest
  • Disturbing a large nest without proper protection often causes stings
  • Wasps may relocate the colony nearby rather than die off
  • Allergic reactions are a real risk for some people
  • Ladders + dusk + a defensive nest is not a safe combination for most homeowners

Where a small nest can be safely handled by the homeowner, we'll tell you that. Where it can't, our service is built around getting it done once, properly.

Same-Day Emergency Wasp Service

For nests in high-traffic areas — doorways, patios, business entrances or anywhere a sting is likely — same-day service may be available. Call us early in the day to improve the chance of a same-day visit. An emergency surcharge may apply.

What to Do Before We Arrive

  • Note the exact location of the nest entry
  • Keep children and pets away from the area
  • Don't seal the entrance — trapped insects often push through interior walls
  • Don't spray it yourself first if you want us to treat the void
  • If outdoors, mark the spot so we can find it quickly

What About Bees?

Apollo Pest Control does not treat bees. Honeybees and bumblebees are important pollinators and are typically handled by a beekeeper for relocation. If you are not sure what species you are dealing with, we can help you identify it before you call anyone.
